New Delhi: In response to rising hostilities between India and Pakistan, Islamabad has taken sweeping security measures, ordering the temporary closure of 32 airports across the nation until May 15. The move is part of heightened preparedness following a cross-border escalation.
Key civilian and military air facilities affected include Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipora, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jammu, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra, Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu-Manali, Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Nalia, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot, Sarsava, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoiz, and Uttarlai. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued directives enforcing the closures.
Tensions flared further on the night of May 9 when Pakistani drones infiltrated Indian airspace, striking 26 sites across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. In one incident, a drone malfunctioned and crashed into a residential zone in Ferozepur, injuring three civilians.
