Ceasefire Violation by Pakistan.
Jammu: Tensions reignited along the India-Pakistan border on Saturday as Pakistan breached the freshly announced ceasefire within mere hours of the agreement being declared. Artillery fire and drone activity were reported across several sensitive sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a swift unraveling of what was hoped to be a step toward de-escalation.
Despite an apparent diplomatic breakthrough earlier in the day—with both countries signaling a mutual commitment to halt cross-border hostilities—Pakistan launched a series of unprovoked attacks targeting positions along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). According to official sources, sectors including Akhnoor, Rajouri, RS Pura, and Palanwalla came under intense shelling.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has been placed on high alert and instructed to respond with decisive force to any further provocations.
In a troubling expansion of the situation, multiple explosions were heard in Srinagar and Baramulla. Reports confirm that a drone was neutralized midair, while other suspicious unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were sighted over Rajouri. The Samba district also sounded an air raid siren in response to the escalation.
The ceasefire breakdown came shortly after Islamabad took the initiative to open truce negotiations, to which New Delhi responded positively. Yet, the swift resurgence of hostilities has cast doubt on Pakistan's intentions.
Reacting to the developments, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed disbelief in a social media post: “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”
This abrupt violation has reignited fears of a wider confrontation, undoing the cautious optimism that followed the earlier truce announcement.
