Thousands Join Annual Eucharistic Procession Through Washington, D.C. Streets

Washington, D.C.: On Saturday, the nation’s capital witnessed the vibrant gathering of thousands as they took part in the third annual Eucharistic Procession organized by the Catholic Information Center (CIC). The event brought together a diverse crowd—children, clergy, and lay faithful alike—united in a solemn tribute to the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The day commenced with Holy Communion at the CIC Chapel, where the number of attendees exceeded the chapel’s capacity. To ensure everyone could participate, the Mass was broadcast live on screens set up outside. Following the Mass, the procession wound its way through the city streets, led by children carrying crosses, candles, and rosaries, symbolizing purity and faith. Behind them, monks, choir members, priests, and the faithful followed in reverent procession.

Held in May—the month traditionally devoted to the Virgin Mary—the procession offered a heartfelt tribute to the Mother of God by honoring her Son’s Eucharistic presence. Gerard McNair-Lewis, Development Associate at CIC, remarked that there could be no better way to celebrate this special month.

The procession was punctuated by hymns and prayers, filling the air with devotion. Onlookers along the route responded with reverence, many kneeling in prayer as the procession passed, a powerful demonstration of communal faith and Eucharistic devotion.
