A wave of confusion has been stirred by selective and misleading media reports surrounding a letter allegedly sent by certain groups to the bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church. These reports, centered on the ongoing discussions over the unified celebration of the Holy Qurbana in the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese, have unfortunately fueled division rather than clarity.
It must be clearly understood: the supreme authority in the Syro-Malabar Church rests with its Bishops' Synod. Decisions on liturgical matters, once passed by the Synod, are binding and final. The unification of the Mass, a decision ratified by both the Eastern Catholic hierarchy and the Holy Father—the Pope himself—carries full ecclesiastical weight and cannot be undermined by unauthorized narratives or dissenting campaigns.
Efforts to distort or challenge this reality through unverified claims not only sow confusion among the faithful but also threaten the very fabric of ecclesial unity. At a time when the Church seeks to walk together in faith and discipline, it is vital that conversations occur within the spiritual bounds of respect, fraternity, and obedience to ecclesiastical authority.
This moment calls for healing, not hostility. True believers must reject any attempts—however subtle—to weaponize dissent or turn impatience into division. The Church is not a place for agitation but a home for communion and reconciliation. Misguided activism that wounds the Church's body only betrays the Gospel it seeks to proclaim.
Let us resist the allure of propaganda and recommit ourselves to the vision of unity that Christ Himself called us to. As we pray together for wisdom and healing, may the Spirit of peace guide the Syro-Malabar Church through this moment of trial into deeper harmony and grace.
