Srinagar: In yet another grim reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in the region, a brave Indian Army soldier was martyred during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar district. The operation, codenamed ‘Op Trashi,’ was launched following intelligence inputs about militant presence in the mountainous terrain.
Initial reports suggest that at least four terrorists are holed up in the area. The gunbattle erupted during a combing operation, and reinforcements have since been rushed to the site to bolster the offensive. The army confirmed that the search operation remains active and that drones are being deployed for aerial surveillance to pin down the exact location of the militants.
In the firefight, additional personnel have reportedly sustained injuries, although the extent has not yet been officially disclosed. The situation remains tense as the army continues its pursuit of the armed militants who are believed to be heavily armed and possibly part of a larger infiltration attempt.
This latest skirmish follows a string of anti-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir this month. Just last week, six terrorists were neutralized in South Kashmir during a coordinated effort by security forces. On May 13, three Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives — including their operational commander — were eliminated in Shopian’s Keller area.
Days later, on May 15, the Indian Army successfully intercepted and killed multiple Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in the volatile Tral region of Pulwama district.
The repeated engagements with terror groups underline the persistent threat along the Line of Control and within the hinterlands of Kashmir. As ‘Op Trashi’ continues, the nation watches closely, mourning the loss of yet another sentinel while saluting the courage of those still on the front lines.
