Kochi: In a high-stakes rescue operation off the coast of Kochi, three crew members—including the ship's captain—were successfully rescued after a Liberia-flagged cargo vessel began tilting dangerously in the Arabian Sea. The incident unfolded roughly 38 nautical miles from Kochi, triggering an urgent response by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
The container ship, carrying a mix of general and hazardous cargo, began listing precariously due to a suspected shift in weight or flooding in the lower decks. The vessel shed several containers into the sea, sparking concerns about environmental safety—especially as some containers reportedly held toxic materials.
Amid growing fears of capsizing, three crew members, including the ship’s captain, were airlifted by Indian Navy helicopters and brought ashore. The rest of the crew had been previously evacuated during the initial response, totaling 24 crew members now accounted for.
