In a sharp escalation of international tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin following the largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began. The strike, which involved over 355 drones and nine cruise missiles, caused widespread devastation across Ukraine, claiming the lives of at least 12 civilians, including children.
Trump, using his social media platform Truth Social, reacted strongly to the developments, stating that Putin had “gone absolutely crazy.” He accused the Russian leader of harboring ambitions to seize the entirety of Ukraine, warning that such moves could ultimately lead to the downfall of Russia itself. "If Putin thinks he can take all of Ukraine, he is signing Russia’s death warrant," Trump declared.
The massive Russian assault struck multiple regions across Ukraine, targeting both civilian infrastructure and key urban centers. Ukrainian emergency services reported extensive damage, with residential buildings, schools, and power facilities among the sites hit.
In addition to criticizing Putin, Trump also took aim at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, accusing him of inflaming the conflict through aggressive rhetoric. Trump’s comments are likely to further stir debate within the international community regarding how best to respond to the ongoing war.
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the intense emotional climate, saying, “There is some emotional overload—these are difficult times.” The Kremlin, however, did not issue a direct rebuttal to Trump’s claim of Putin being mentally unstable.
The renewed violence has prompted renewed discussions in Washington and among U.S. allies about the possibility of imposing fresh sanctions on Moscow.
President Trump indicated he is considering a new round of measures, which may include secondary banking sanctions and broader economic penalties. “We will consider every possible lever of pressure to make Russia stop,” Trump stated.
Meanwhile, European nations have moved independently to impose their own sanctions, with new measures targeting Russian oil exports and financial entities accused of facilitating sanction evasion. The European Union’s recent sanctions package reflects growing concerns over the worsening humanitarian crisis and Moscow’s continued defiance of international law.
This latest development has reignited fears of a broader regional destabilization, as international leaders grapple with finding a diplomatic off-ramp while deterring further escalation.
With both rhetoric and military actions intensifying, the world watches closely for what may come next in a conflict that shows no sign of abating.
