Faith and Family Unite: Over 60,000 Pilgrims Head to Rome for Jubilee of Families

Rome: Rome is preparing to welcome a tidal wave of devotion and togetherness as more than 60,000 pilgrims from 120 countries arrive for the Jubilee of Families, Children, Grandparents, and the Elderly, taking place from Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1.

This three-day celebration — a vibrant blend of reflection, prayer, celebration, and community — will mark one of the most significant spiritual gatherings of the Jubilee Year. Pilgrims are arriving in large numbers from across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and beyond, including major delegations from Italy, Spain, the United States, Poland, Portugal, Brazil, the UK, and the Philippines.

Religious movements and organizations including Agesci, Catholic Action, the Neocatechumenal Way, the Franciscan and Focolare Movements, and the Catholic Grandparents Association will be prominently represented.

The Jubilee begins with pilgrimages through the Holy Doors of Rome’s major basilicas, open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. That morning, the popular initiative "Dialogues with the City" will bring cultural, spiritual, and artistic events to Rome’s iconic piazzas, courtesy of family-focused organizations such as the Pontifical Committee for World Children’s Day and the Emmanuel Community.

While pilgrimages continue, visitors will enjoy more "Dialogues with the City" events from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., featuring music, workshops, and community discussions organized by Catholic groups and cultural institutions.

The day culminates with the Family Festival and Marian Vigil in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hosted by television presenter Lorena Bianchetti, the evening will feature testimony and music from actor Giovanni Scifoni, Christian bands The Sun and Gen Verde, and child saxophone prodigy Alfio Russo.

At the festival’s entrance, 10,000 copies of a newly updated Children’s Bible, published in five languages by the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need, will be distributed to families.

The Jubilee will conclude on Sunday morning with a Eucharistic Celebration in St. Peter’s Square at 10:30 a.m., led by Pope Leo XIV. Families and children from across the globe will participate in the Mass, which requires no ticket for entry.

With its global reach and deep spiritual resonance, the Jubilee of Families promises to be a powerful affirmation of unity, faith, and the enduring strength of the family.
