New Delhi: In the wake of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that has claimed 294 lives, the central government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee to investigate the incident and suggest preventive measures for the future.

The committee, chaired by the Union Home Secretary, will comprise senior officials from both central and state governments, all of whom will hold positions not below the rank of Joint Secretary. The panel is tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances that led to the disaster.

The investigation will cover a wide spectrum of factors including possible mechanical malfunctions, human error, adverse weather conditions, air traffic control procedures, and other potential regulatory lapses. The team will thoroughly examine flight data records, cockpit voice recordings, aircraft maintenance logs, ATC communications, and eyewitness testimonies.

The government has mandated that a detailed report be submitted within a period of three months.

Meanwhile, 24 students injured in the crash—who were in a nearby hostel—are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have so far handed over six identified bodies to their families. Efforts are underway to complete DNA testing to identify the remaining victims, after which the bodies will be released to their relatives.
