Thiruvananthapuram: A British military aircraft was compelled to make an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Saturday night, after adverse sea conditions disrupted its return to its naval base.
According to sources, the aircraft had taken off from a British warship stationed approximately 100 nautical miles off the Kerala coast. However, as turbulent sea conditions rendered a safe landing on the vessel impossible, the pilot was forced to divert course. With fuel levels dropping to a critical point, the crew sought immediate clearance for an emergency landing on the mainland.
Airport authorities confirmed that the aircraft landed safely at 9:30 PM. The situation was promptly managed with the assistance of defense personnel and airport officials. No casualties or damages were reported.
Following the successful landing, arrangements were made to refuel the aircraft. Officials from the Indian Defense Department coordinated the necessary technical and logistical support to prepare the jet for its return flight.
The British military has not released further details about the mission or the aircraft model involved, but sources suggest the incident underscores the complexities of aerial operations launched from naval carriers in challenging maritime environments.
The aircraft is expected to depart once all safety checks are completed and weather conditions permit a safe return to its ship.
