Mumbai: In a compassionate gesture following the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, Air India has announced an additional interim relief of ₹25 lakh for the families of the deceased and those injured in the disaster. This sum is in addition to the ₹1 crore compensation earlier declared by Tata Sons, the airline’s parent company.
The announcement was made as part of continued efforts to support those affected by the crash of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The aircraft, carrying 242 people including 12 crew members, plunged into the BJ Medical College hostel building near Ahmedabad airport shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran had previously assured that the conglomerate would fully cover the medical expenses of survivors and provide ₹1 crore each to the families of those who lost their lives. He also pledged that Tata Sons would take the responsibility of reconstructing the BJ Medical College hostel, which bore the brunt of the crash.
Air India, echoing the group’s commitment to humanitarian assistance, described the ₹25 lakh interim aid as a step to provide immediate financial support as families and survivors begin the long journey toward recovery.
As rescue and recovery operations continue, the tragic crash remains the worst aviation disaster India has witnessed in the past decade.
