Pope Leo XIV Extends Gratitude for Support to Peter’s Pence Collection, Honors Unity on Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

Vatican City: On the occasion of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope Leo XIV expressed his deep appreciation to the faithful across the world for their heartfelt contributions to the Peter’s Pence collection. Following the Sunday Angelus prayer on June 29, the Pope underscored the collection's powerful role as a sign of unity with the papacy and participation in the broader mission of the Church.

Addressing pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father noted, “Today also marks the Peter’s Pence collection a gesture of communion with the Pope and a contribution to his apostolic mission. I sincerely thank all those who, through their generosity, support my initial steps as the Successor of Peter.”

The Peter’s Pence collection, traditionally observed around the world on this solemnity, is an annual expression of the Church’s global solidarity. Funds collected are directed towards papal charity works, emergency responses to humanitarian crises, and assistance to impoverished and marginalized communities worldwide.

Turning his attention to the Diocese of Rome, the Pope offered special words of recognition and encouragement to the clergy who serve within its parishes. “My thoughts go in a special way to the parish priests and all the priests working in Roman parishes. I am grateful for your dedication and I urge you to continue your mission with renewed strength.”

He also warmly welcomed the international pilgrims who accompanied the newly appointed Metropolitan Archbishops during the morning’s Eucharistic celebration. During that Mass, 54 archbishops received the Pallium the sacred woolen vestment that symbolizes their unity with the Pope and their commitment to shepherding their respective provinces.

In a heartfelt aside, Pope Leo turned his prayers to the people of Ukraine. “To those pilgrims who have come from Ukraine: I pray continually for your nation and its suffering people,” he said, offering words of hope and solidarity.

The Pope further applauded the “Quo Vadis” pilgrimage initiative a spiritual journey across significant Roman landmarks tied to the lives and martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul. “I bless all those taking part in the 'Quo Vadis' event,” he noted. “It is a beautiful opportunity to rediscover the roots of the faith and deepen one’s devotion to these great pillars of the Church. I am thankful to all who have worked tirelessly to bring this meaningful event to life.”

As the faithful honored Rome’s patron saints, Pope Leo XIV’s reflections reminded the global Church of the enduring bonds of communion, charity, and shared mission that unite believers with the See of Peter.
