Arthungal Police Station Becomes India’s First to Earn QMS Certification

Kochi: Setting a national benchmark in policing standards, Arthungal Police Station in Alappuzha district has made history by becoming the first police station in India to receive the Quality Management System (QMS) certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

This prestigious recognition was officially granted by the Southern Regional Office of BIS on June 24, applauding the station's consistent dedication to high-quality service delivery and effective law enforcement practices.

The QMS certification highlights the station’s exceptional performance across a wide range of public service areas, including crime prevention, criminal investigations, law and order maintenance, traffic regulation, emergency response, judicial collaboration, and grievance redressal. According to a BIS press release, these duties are performed in strict alignment with India’s legal codes and government directives while prioritizing transparency, operational efficiency, and public satisfaction.

The certification ceremony took place at Arthungal Police Station at 12:00 noon on Thursday, and was formally inaugurated by Kerala State Police Chief, Rawada Azad Chandrasekhar IPS.

This recognition marks a significant milestone not only for Arthungal Police Station but also for policing in India demonstrating how law enforcement can evolve through quality management principles and citizen-focused service.
