Rain Havoc Triggers District Wide Holiday for Educational Institutions Across Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: In response to incessant downpours and the issuance of orange alerts in multiple districts, district administrations across Kerala have declared holidays for all educational institutions on Thursday, July 17. The move comes as a precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff amid worsening weather conditions.

With an orange alert declared and rainfall showing no signs of abating, the Wayanad district administration has announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, religious schools, anganwadis, and tuition centers. However, residential institutions will function as usual. Importantly, pre-scheduled examinations will be conducted without any changes.

Kozhikode will also observe a shutdown of schools, anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centers on July 17. The decision follows a strong rain forecast issued by the weather department. The holiday aims to avoid any potential risk to students due to waterlogging and slippery routes.

Flooded low-lying regions have prompted the Kasaragod District Collector to announce a holiday for all educational institutions, from schools to professional colleges and special coaching centers. The District Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and has confirmed that all scheduled exams will take place without delay.

In Thrissur, District Collector Arjun Pandian announced a precautionary holiday for all schools, anganwadis, nurseries, CBSE/ICSE schools, tuition centers, and professional colleges. Citing an orange alert and continued rains, the collector also issued a heartfelt message:

“Let this rainy holiday be a time to learn, reflect, and stay safe indoors. Don’t venture near rivers or flooded areas. This break is dedicated to young Salman and all the dreamers like him may their aspirations flourish.”

Kannur district, too, has declared a full-day holiday for all schools, religious education centers, and anganwadis. Despite the rainfall concerns, all examinations will continue as per schedule, ensuring minimal disruption to academic progress.

With multiple districts on alert and weather conditions expected to persist, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local officials.
