Sweida: A new ceasefire has been brokered between Syria’s Druze community and the Syrian government in the southern city of Sweida, according to Sheikh Yousef Jarbou, a prominent Druze religious leader. The announcement, broadcast Wednesday via state media, follows days of heightened tensions and violence.
The agreement is said to take effect immediately, bringing a halt to recent hostilities that escalated after Israeli airstrikes targeted Damascus.
A previous ceasefire attempt on Tuesday night quickly unraveled, with reports of continued gunfire from government forces despite the truce. A Reuters eyewitness confirmed that clashes persisted in the Druze-majority city even after the temporary deal had been declared.
