Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the red alert warnings issued by the Central Meteorological Department, district administrations in Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Saturday, July 19. The decision comes as heavy rains continue to batter various regions of northern Kerala, raising concerns over public safety.
In Kannur district, the red alert has prompted authorities to announce a holiday for all schools, colleges, tuition centers, religious institutions, and special classes. The order applies uniformly across the district and is intended to prevent any untoward incidents during the intense rainfall period.
Similarly, in Wayanad, a precautionary holiday has been declared for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, and tuition centers. However, the order excludes residential educational institutions. Authorities clarified that examinations already scheduled will proceed as planned, without any change in timing or venue.
Kasaragod district, which has been grappling with rising river levels and flooding in low-lying areas, has also declared a district-wide academic shutdown. The District Collector's directive includes Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas, anganwadis, professional colleges, and all special coaching centers.
Despite the shutdown, pre-scheduled exams university, professional, and departmental will not be postponed. Students appearing for these exams are urged to exercise caution while traveling and stay updated through official channels.
The public is advised to stay vigilant and follow updates from the District Disaster Management Authority.
