Mananthavady Diocese Honoured with KCBC Award for Leadership in Anti-Drug and Liquor Awareness

Mananthavady: In a moment of immense pride and recognition, the Diocese of Mananthavady has been declared the Best Diocese in Kerala for its unwavering commitment to anti-drug and anti-alcohol awareness campaigns. The accolade was conferred by the Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC), acknowledging the diocese's outstanding grassroots work in shielding society especially the youth from the growing threats of substance abuse.

The award was presented as part of KCBC’s annual evaluation of social and moral intervention programs across dioceses in Kerala. Mananthavady stood out for its sustained and structured campaign against addiction, blending pastoral care, community outreach, school awareness drives, and rehabilitation support with exceptional coordination and commitment.

Under the guidance of its leadership and pastoral teams, the diocese has launched a multifaceted initiative involving parishes, youth movements, educational institutions, and family apostolates. The programs focused on early intervention among schoolchildren, sensitisation sessions for parents, and spiritual renewal programs for at-risk individuals. The initiatives also extended support to recovering addicts through counselling and faith-based rehabilitation pathways.

KCBC lauded the diocese’s model as “a powerful example of faith in action”, proving that the Church can play a transformative role in moral and social reawakening, particularly at a time when Kerala grapples with alarming rates of drug addiction among the younger population.

The Mananthavady diocesan leadership expressed gratitude for the honour and dedicated the award to its clergy, laity, and youth volunteers, who continue to walk into difficult spaces with compassion and conviction. The recognition not only boosts morale but also positions the diocese as a guiding light for other regions seeking to combat the scourge of substance abuse.

As the state faces a growing challenge from narcotic networks and alcoholism, Mananthavady’s pathbreaking model serves as a call to action for the Church, society, and the state to rise together in defence of life, dignity, and hope.
