Air India Disburses Interim Compensation to Victims' Families in Ahmedabad Plane Tragedy

Ahmedabad: In a major relief effort following the devastating Ahmedabad plane crash, Air India has disbursed interim compensation of ₹25 lakh each to the families of 166 victims. The payouts cover the next of kin of 147 passengers and 19 non-passenger personnel who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Airline officials confirmed that the compensation process is underway for the remaining 52 affected families, with disbursal pending due to document verification delays. The airline has assured that once the necessary identification and legal formalities are completed, these families will also receive the announced assistance.

In addition to this financial support, Tata Sons the parent company of Air India has announced the formation of a ₹500 crore charitable trust aimed at long-term rehabilitation and welfare of the bereaved families. The trust is expected to focus on education, healthcare, and livelihood support for dependents of the deceased.

Earlier, the Tata Group had also pledged a compensation of ₹1 crore per family for those who died in the crash, positioning the company’s response among the most generous in civil aviation disaster history in India. The gesture has been widely acknowledged as a significant step towards corporate accountability and humanitarian outreach.

The plane crash, which shocked the nation, is still under investigation by aviation authorities. Meanwhile, Air India continues to coordinate with local administration and legal representatives to ensure the promised support reaches every affected family.
