New Delhi: Amid conflicting reports over alleged cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, the Indian Army on Monday firmly clarified that no ceasefire violation had occurred along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Army’s official statement comes in the wake of a news report by Press Trust of India (PTI), which cited unnamed sources claiming that Pakistani forces had initiated firing in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. The report stirred concern and drew media attention toward a possible breakdown of the 2021 ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan.
However, rebutting these claims, the Army, through inputs provided to ANI, categorically denied any breach of the ceasefire agreement, stating that the situation along the border remains “calm and under control.”
“There has been no ceasefire violation anywhere on the LoC,” a senior Army official told ANI, dismissing speculation and urging the media to verify information through official sources before broadcasting sensitive claims.
The Indian and Pakistani armies had recommitted to a ceasefire agreement in February 2021, after years of frequent hostilities and skirmishes. Since then, border incidents have dramatically reduced, though occasional allegations of minor breaches have surfaced.
The Army’s prompt clarification comes as part of an effort to maintain transparency while preventing unnecessary alarm or diplomatic friction. Meanwhile, both media agencies PTI and ANI stand by their respective sources, illustrating the challenge of reconciling field-level reports with official communication in sensitive conflict zones.
As of now, there is no official record of firing or casualties along the Poonch border, and authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
