Delhi Turns into Fortress Ahead of 79th Independence Day Celebrations

New Delhi: The national capital has been transformed into a high-security zone as Delhi gears up for the 79th Independence Day celebrations. More than 10,000 police personnel and 3,000 traffic policemen are on duty, backed by paramilitary forces and commandos, to ensure an incident-free event.

The spotlight of security is on the Red Fort, where the Prime Minister will hoist the national flag. The area is under round-the-clock surveillance through an extensive network of CCTV cameras, facial recognition systems, and advanced drone detection technology. For the first time, under-vehicle surveillance systems have been installed at five parking facilities to scan for hidden explosives or weapons beneath vehicles.

From August 2 to 16, Delhi has imposed a blanket ban on drones, paragliders, and hot air balloons. Markets, metro stations, bus terminals, and other crowded public spaces will witness intensified patrolling, with senior officers conducting on-ground reviews of arrangements.

Commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering the city starting 10 pm on August 14. Railway stations, airports, and inter-state bus terminals are under heightened watch, with continuous screening of passengers, baggage, and ID documents.

The elaborate measures blending manpower, cutting-edge tech, and strict traffic controls underline Delhi Police’s focus on eliminating every potential security risk ahead of the nation’s big day.
