Catholic Congress to Step into Local Polls with Renewed Youth Energy: Mar Peter Kochupurakkal

Mundur (Palakkad): The Catholic Congress has announced its decision to play an active role in the upcoming local self-government elections, with a renewed emphasis on community empowerment. Palakkad Diocese President Mar Peter Kochupurakkal made the declaration while inaugurating the National Youth Conference NYC 2K25, organized by the Catholic Congress Global Youth Council at the Palakkad Youth Temple.

Highlighting the importance of youth participation, the bishop noted that the Global Youth Council can infuse energy and dynamism into the Catholic Congress’s interventions in social and community spheres. He emphasized that the Catholic Congress, being deeply rooted in community life, must transform its presence into concrete action for social upliftment.

Global President Prof. Rajeev Kochuparampil delivered the keynote address, underlining the strategic importance of youth in shaping political and social narratives. Sijo Ilanthur, General Coordinator of the Global Youth Council, presided over the gathering, while Fr. Philip Kaviyil, Global Director, shared a special message.

The conference also saw the active participation of global and diocesan leaders including Dr. Josukutty J., Fr. Cherian Anjilimuttil, Thomas Antony, Benny Antony, Tresalis Sebastian, Joyce Mary Antony, Denny Thengumpalli, Adv. Bobby Bastin, Antony Kuttikkadan, and AB Vadakkekkara.

Ahead of the formal sessions, Prof. Rajeev Kochuparampil hoisted the conference flag, symbolizing the unity and vigor of the Catholic Congress youth movement. The conference, which brought together delegates and leaders from across regions, will conclude later today with a resolution on youth-led interventions for community welfare and electoral participation.
