Head of Jacobite Church Visits Syro-Malabar Church Headquarters, Emphasizes Ecumenical Cooperation

Kochi: His Holiness Catholicos Mor Baselios Joseph, the head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, visited the Syro-Malabar Church headquarters at Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad. The visit coincided with the Synod meeting of the Syro-Malabar bishops, providing a platform for dialogue and mutual understanding between the two sister churches.

At the church headquarters, Major Archbishop Mar Rafael Thattil and Syro-Malabar Synod Secretary Archbishop Mar Joseph Pampaly together received His Holiness Mor Baselios Joseph. He then held discussions with the Synod bishops as well as other members of the Major Archiepiscopal Curia.



The Catholicos highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration between the Jacobite and Syro-Malabar Churches, emphasizing the need for joint efforts in bearing Christian witness to the world. He expressed hope that both churches could stand together in addressing contemporary challenges and crises.



In response, Major Archbishop Mar Rafael Thattil assured that the Syro-Malabar Church would extend a hand of fraternity to the Jacobite Church whenever necessary. He also underscored the need for joint efforts to preserve the shared heritage and faith traditions of both communities. Bishop Mar Sebastian Edathara welcomed the Catholicos, while CBCI President Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath and Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt conveyed their greetings and felicitations.

The visit reflects the continuing efforts of both churches to strengthen ecumenical ties, promote unity, and collaborate in serving the faithful amid the evolving challenges of the present era.
