Kozhikode: Archbishop Dr. Varghese Chakkalakal, head of the Calicut Archdiocese, has submitted a petition to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, seeking government action on issues affecting the Christian community in the state. The petition reportedly highlights concerns regarding religious freedom, the administration of Christian educational institutions, and the welfare of marginalized groups within the community.
In recent months, Archbishop Chakkalakal has actively engaged with political leaders, including meetings with Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan, to discuss matters affecting his community.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan acknowledged the petition and assured that the government remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of all communities in Kerala. He emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue and collaboration between religious leaders and the state to promote social harmony.
This development underscores Kerala’s continuing efforts to maintain inclusive governance and foster cooperation between the state and religious communities.
