New Delhi: Heavy rainfall in Delhi and surrounding areas has caused widespread disruption in flight operations, prompting SpiceJet to issue a travel advisory to its passengers. The airline warned that adverse weather conditions could lead to delays or cancellations and urged travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rain and thunderstorms over the next two days. Rising water levels in the Yamuna River have crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters, reaching 207 meters at the Old Railway Bridge. Authorities have evacuated families from low-lying areas including Yamuna Khadar, Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Old Usmanpur, and Yamuna Bazar. Relief camps have been set up, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are assisting with evacuation efforts.
Other major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have also issued advisories for passengers. Travelers have been advised to allow extra time to reach airports due to potential traffic congestion caused by waterlogged roads and to remain updated on the status of their flights.
Passengers are urged to regularly check airline websites or mobile apps for flight updates and prepare for possible delays or cancellations. Authorities have stressed the importance of staying informed on weather advisories and following safety instructions to minimize travel disruptions.
The heavy rains continue to affect not only air travel but also local commuting in Delhi, as waterlogging and traffic congestion challenge daily routines. Authorities have warned residents to remain cautious and avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding.
