Abuja: A recent surge in armed attacks by jihadist militants has left villages near the Nigeria-Benin border in a state of fear and uncertainty. The militants targeted a local police station, raided homes, stole property, and abducted several civilians, escalating the region's security crisis.

Bishop Martin Adjau Maimouni of the Diocese of Ndali confirmed the attacks and expressed concern over the growing threat posed by these armed groups. He noted that similar attacks in the past month included the abduction of a Catholic believer, suggesting possible links between the incidents.

Due to increasing insecurity, pastoral activities in rural areas have been severely affected, forcing the diocese to limit its outreach. In urban areas, the bishop has instructed clergy to hold religious services only during daylight hours, as nighttime has become increasingly unsafe.

Bishop Adjau warned that the militants, likely affiliated with Boko Haram, are motivated by financial gain, engaging in raids and kidnappings for ransom. They have also issued threats aimed at stopping the spread of the Gospel in these communities.

The situation underscores the growing danger faced by Christians in Nigeria, particularly in regions vulnerable to militant activity. Authorities and religious leaders continue to call for urgent measures to protect civilians and maintain stability in these border areas.
