Lilongwe: Young priests across Malawi have been lauded for their dedication to advancing the Church’s mission in the midst of rapid technological change. Church leaders highlighted their adaptability, energy, and effective use of technology in reaching communities and strengthening faith.
Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka, President of the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops, emphasized the vital role of prayer in sustaining ministry and encouraged priests to remain faithful to the examples of holiness that initially inspired their vocation.
The recognition came during a week-long training session held from September 8 to 12 at St. Anthony Kachebere Major Seminary, which brought together 67 diocesan priests from all eight dioceses in Malawi.
Organized by the Commission for Evangelization and Catechesis of the MCCB, the event focused on formation, reflection, and fraternity, helping participants rediscover and refine their approach to priestly ministry.
Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima, Chairman of the Pastoral Commission, expressed confidence that the session would renew and better equip priests to live their vocation with greater depth and commitment. Fr. Joseph Sikwese, MCCB National Pastoral Coordinator, added that participants had the opportunity to share personal experiences of joy and challenge in their early ministry, describing the training as a moment of grace that strengthened their priestly identity.
The initiative underscores Malawi’s commitment to empowering young clergy to embrace contemporary tools while staying rooted in the Church’s mission and values.
