New Delhi: The Catholic Church mourns the passing of Bishop Edwin Colaco, Bishop Emeritus of Aurangabad, who peacefully departed to eternal life on September 22, 2025, at the age of 87. His death marks the conclusion of a life devoted to pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and unwavering service to the faithful.

Bishop Colaço was born on October 2, 1937, in Uttan, within the Archdiocese of Bombay. He answered the call to the priesthood early in life and was ordained a priest on December 2, 1964. Throughout his early years in ministry, he distinguished himself by his deep compassion, dedication to pastoral work, and commitment to nurturing the spiritual lives of his parishioners.

On April 1, 1995, Father Colaço was appointed Bishop of Amravati, and he received episcopal ordination on July 30, 1995. His tenure in Amravati was marked by a focus on evangelization, catechesis, and the strengthening of parish communities.

In recognition of his pastoral experience and leadership, he was transferred to the Diocese of Aurangabad on October 20, 2006, becoming its fourth bishop. For nearly a decade, Bishop Colaço shepherded the diocese with dedication, emphasizing faith formation, social outreach, and the empowerment of clergy and laity alike. Under his guidance, the diocese witnessed growth in both spiritual and community development programs.

After retiring in 2015, Bishop Colaço continued to serve as a spiritual guide and mentor, offering wisdom and encouragement to the clergy and faithful of Aurangabad. His humility, devotion, and pastoral zeal left an indelible mark on the communities he served.

The Catholic Church remembers Bishop Edwin Colaço as a devoted shepherd, a compassionate leader, and a man whose life was a testament to service and faith. His contributions to the dioceses of Amravati and Aurangabad will continue to inspire generations of clergy and laity.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Diocese of Aurangabad, with clergy, faithful, and devotees from across India expected to pay their respects to the late bishop.
