Accenture Proposes New Campus in Andhra Pradesh, Eyes Adding 12,000 Jobs

Hyderabad: Accenture, the global technology consulting firm, has proposed establishing a new campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with plans to create approximately 12,000 jobs. This initiative is part of the company's ongoing expansion in India, where it already employs over 300,000 workers its largest workforce globally.

The proposal includes a request for 10 acres of land under a state policy offering leases at a nominal rate of ₹0.99 per acre to large companies that commit to significant employment generation. The Andhra Pradesh government is favorable toward the proposal, although exact investment figures from Accenture remain undisclosed.

This move aligns with similar expansions by Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant, who have also taken advantage of the new land lease policy to set up facilities in Visakhapatnam, collectively aiming to create approximately 20,000 jobs.

While Cognizant plans to invest $183 million and TCS over $154 million, the trend reflects a broader industry shift toward smaller Indian cities to leverage lower operational costs and attract local talent. These expansions also emerge in response to new U.S. immigration and outsourcing policies, including a $100,000 fee for new H-1B visas and a proposed 25% tax on American firms using outsourcing services.
