HASSS Distributes Essential Relief to 750 Flood-Affected Families in Kamareddy, Telangana

Kamareddy: In a remarkable demonstration of compassion and swift action, the Hyderabad Archdiocese Social Service Society (HASSS) provided relief to 750 families affected by the devastating floods that struck Kamareddy District in late August. The initiative, guided by Cardinal Poola Anthony, Archbishop of Hyderabad and Chairman of HASSS, sought to address the immediate needs of families who lost homes, livelihoods, and a sense of security in the wake of the natural calamity.

The relief programme reached communities in Gandhari and Lingampet Mandals, coordinated closely with local authorities and voluntary organisations to ensure timely and efficient distribution. In Gandhari Mandal, 400 families from Vandrikal, Vandrikal Camp, and Ramalakshmanapalli were assisted, while in Lingampet Mandal, 350 families from Khanapur, Chennapur, Komatpalli, and Mothe villages received support. Each relief package included dry ration kits, hygiene supplies, and bedsheets, carefully tailored to meet urgent post-flood necessities.

HASSS executed the operation in two phases: the first phase assisted over 250 families immediately after the floods, and the second phase, carried out on 22 September, extended aid to 750 additional families. The initiative was strengthened through collaboration with the local Tahsildar and voluntary organisations such as Light for the Blind, illustrating the power of partnerships between the Church, government authorities, and civil society in responding to crises.

Fr. Anthony Madanu, Director of HASSS, emphasized the spirit of service behind the programme, saying, “This initiative reflects the compassion we hold for those affected. The guidance of Cardinal Poola Anthony inspires us with a spirit of service.” Beyond material aid, the programme reassured families that they were not alone in their struggle, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to stand with communities in times of distress.

The relief effort also acknowledged the generous support of Caritas India, the people of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, and other sponsors who contributed resources for this mission of mercy. In the midst of destruction, the HASSS initiative became a testament to Christian charity, resilience, and hope, restoring both dignity and practical support to the people of Kamareddy District.
