Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police has issued a stern advisory cautioning the public against misleading content circulating on social media regarding the Bharat Bandh scheduled for October 3rd. The alert comes after authorities observed a surge of posts falsely claiming that nationwide protests would take place, causing confusion among citizens.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had initially announced a Bharat Bandh to protest against the recent amendments to the Waqf Act. However, the organization officially withdrew the call for the strike through a formal statement, clarifying that no bandh will be observed. Despite this, numerous social media accounts have continued to spread rumors suggesting otherwise.
Authorities have emphasized that the propagation of such false information can incite unnecessary panic and disrupt public order. Kerala Police warned that individuals or groups found creating or sharing misleading posts about the bandh will face strict legal action under relevant provisions of law.
A senior police official stated, “The public is advised to verify information from credible sources before sharing it online. Spreading false news not only misleads people but can also attract serious legal consequences.”
The police have urged citizens to remain calm and disregard any unverified messages or posts regarding the Bharat Bandh. Law enforcement agencies will closely monitor social media platforms and take immediate action against violators to ensure peace and stability across the state.
This advisory highlights the growing concern over misinformation on digital platforms and the need for responsible social media usage, especially during politically sensitive periods.
