Typhoon Bualoi Leaves 51 Dead in Vietnam, Authorities Urge Financial Support for Affected Firms

Hanoi: Typhoon Bualoi has wreaked havoc in northern and central Vietnam, resulting in 51 confirmed deaths, 14 people reported missing, and 164 others injured. The storm made landfall on Monday, bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and dangerous sea swells.

The disaster has caused extensive damage to housing and agriculture. Over 230,000 homes were damaged or flooded, and nearly 89,000 hectares of rice and other crops were destroyed. The total property damage has been estimated at 15.9 trillion dong (approximately $603 million), an increase from earlier estimates of $435.8 million. Roads, schools, and government offices were also severely affected, and tens of thousands of households experienced power outages.

Major industrial facilities in the storm's path, including sites operated by Foxconn, Formosa Plastics, Luxshare, and Vinfast, reported no significant harm.

In response to the disaster, Vietnam’s central bank has urged commercial banks to support recovery efforts by restructuring or freezing loans for businesses affected by the typhoon. Authorities are focusing on providing immediate assistance to displaced populations and restoring essential services as rescue and relief operations continue.

The impact of Typhoon Bualoi underscores the vulnerability of northern and central Vietnam to extreme weather events, highlighting the need for continued disaster preparedness and financial support for affected communities.
