Cyclone Shakti Approaches Maharashtra, Heavy Rains Expected Until October 7

Mumbai: Maharashtra is bracing for Cyclone Shakti, the first cyclonic storm of the season in the Arabian Sea, which is intensifying and is expected to impact several coastal and interior districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued high to moderate cyclone warnings from October 3 to October 7, 2025.

Coastal areas including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to experience strong winds ranging from 45 to 55 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h, along with very rough sea conditions. Interior regions, including East Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada, are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.

The IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas of North Konkan due to intense cloud formation and moisture influx. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea and urged residents to follow safety precautions.

District administrations have been instructed to activate disaster management plans, prepare evacuation measures for coastal and flood-prone areas, and issue timely public advisories. The Maharashtra government has heightened preparedness to ensure public safety during the cyclone.

Residents are urged to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions as Cyclone Shakti moves closer to the state.
