New Delhi: In a major diplomatic move, India has announced its decision to fully restore its embassy in Kabul, elevating the existing technical mission to a full-fledged diplomatic establishment. The announcement came during the visit of Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to New Delhi, signaling a renewed phase of engagement between the two nations.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the step reflects India's commitment to maintaining robust diplomatic relations with Afghanistan despite the challenges posed by past conflicts and the Taliban's return to power. The restoration aims to facilitate greater cooperation in key sectors such as trade, infrastructure, health, and education, and to support Afghanistan’s ongoing reconstruction efforts.
The move also underscores India's strategic approach in engaging with the Taliban-led administration while safeguarding its regional interests. Both ministers expressed optimism about expanding bilateral cooperation, with Afghanistan assuring that its territory will not be used for actions against India, emphasizing security and stability in the region.
This restoration of the embassy marks a significant milestone in India-Afghanistan relations, illustrating a pragmatic diplomatic stance and a willingness to engage constructively to ensure peace, development, and mutual collaboration in South Asia.
