Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission Resolves Over 70% of Grievances at Tirupathur District Meet

Tirupathur: In a significant move toward safeguarding the rights of minority communities, the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission held a district-level consultation at the Tirupathur District Collectorate on October 8. Chaired by Fr. Joe Arun, S.J., the session was aimed at addressing the pressing petitions and grievances submitted by minority citizens across Tirupathur district.

The meeting covered a wide spectrum of issues affecting minorities, including staff appointments in schools, issuance of minority status certificates, access to scholarships, recognition of minority-run institutions, clarifications regarding the TET examination, provision of free textbooks to Tamil-medium students, allocation of renovation funds for mosques, establishment of skill development centres, provision of interest-free loans, protection of Buddhist heritage sites, and basic infrastructure for cemeteries.

A remarkable outcome of the session was the resolution of over 70% of petitions on the spot. This swift action was made possible through the close coordination of the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and other government officials, drawing widespread appreciation from the attendees. Participants lauded the administrative efficiency and proactive approach that facilitated immediate solutions for long-standing issues.

Speaking to the media, Fr. Joe Arun emphasized the Commission’s unwavering commitment to minority welfare under the guidance of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, and Minority Welfare Minister Naser. “The Commission functions as a bridge between the people and the government, ensuring that grievances are addressed promptly and fairly,” he stated.

Fr. Joe further highlighted that the Commission has conducted similar consultations in 34 districts so far, resolving nearly 80% of issues raised in these meetings. He particularly commended the Tirupathur administration for its remarkable coordination and dedication to public service, noting that such efficient governance serves as a model for other districts.

The Tirupathur meet reflects Tamil Nadu’s continued commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring that minority communities receive timely attention and support from government mechanisms. The success of this consultation reinforces the role of the Minorities Commission as an effective instrument for justice, equity, and community welfare.
