Berlin: Germany has confirmed that Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and several other Arab nations are actively pressuring the militant group Hamas in Gaza to disarm. The German Foreign Ministry highlighted these efforts as a coordinated attempt to curb Hamas’s military activities and reduce tensions in the region.
“All these states don’t want Hamas to be active. They want disarmament, and in this respect, we have a good pressure scenario, because it won’t work without pressure,” said German Minister Johann Wadephul in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio. His remarks underline the importance of diplomatic and regional leverage in influencing Hamas’s behavior, rather than relying solely on international condemnation or sanctions.
This initiative comes amid ongoing concerns over the potential for renewed conflict in Gaza and the wider Middle East. By encouraging Hamas to disarm, regional actors aim to stabilize the area, limit militant operations, and create conditions for more constructive dialogue between conflicting parties.
Germany’s statement also reflects a broader recognition of the crucial role that neighboring Arab countries play in mediating conflicts in Gaza. The combined diplomatic pressure from these states is seen as an essential step toward reducing violence and fostering long-term security in the region.
