Netanyahu to Join Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt Alongside Abbas and World Leaders; Sources Says

Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to attend the high-profile Gaza peace summit taking place on Monday in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to Egypt’s presidential spokesperson.

The summit, convened to reinforce and formalize the recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, will bring together key regional and global leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Both Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will take part in the peace summit to solidify the agreement to end the war in Gaza and reaffirm their commitment to it,” the Egyptian presidential spokesperson announced.

The gathering marks the first face-to-face engagement between Abbas and Netanyahu since the ceasefire began, signaling cautious optimism over diplomatic progress following months of conflict. Discussions are expected to focus on implementing security arrangements, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery, and outlining post-war governance for Gaza under international supervision.

The spokesperson also confirmed that Presidents Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Donald Trump held a joint phone call with Netanyahu earlier in the day to coordinate their positions ahead of the summit. The conversation reportedly centered on mechanisms to maintain stability, enforce Hamas’s disarmament, and prevent renewed violence in the region.

Egypt, which has historically played a pivotal mediating role in Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, is hosting the summit as part of broader efforts to consolidate peace and lay the groundwork for reconstruction in Gaza.

Diplomatic observers say the participation of both Netanyahu and Abbas, alongside international actors, underscores the significance of this moment as a potential turning point in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
