Goa: The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman celebrated the Jubilee of Social Communications with inspiring Media Missions at Caranzalem and Dramapur parishes on 12 October, emphasizing the role of authentic communication in today’s faith life. Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Purificação Fernandes led the celebrations, urging the faithful to follow the example of Mother Mary as the model of genuine and compassionate communication.
In his homily, Bishop Fernandes reflected on the dual significance of the day, coinciding with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Jubilee of Social Communications Media. He elaborated on five distinct dimensions through which Mary communicates: through her words, deeds, thoughts, silence, and fellowship. The Bishop encouraged parishioners to carry this spirit into their homes, parishes, and communities, serving as messengers of hope. “The Rosary is not just a prayer, but a powerful tool to connect with God. Likewise, modern media mobile phones, television, the internet, and print can be channels to share hope and faith,” he emphasized.
Mrs. Nita Fleming, a member of the diocesan communication team, shared her reflections during the event, likening the Holy Spirit’s constant guidance to a social media presence, saying, “Sometimes I think the Holy Spirit must also have a social media account, because He keeps sending messages every moment of every day.” Echoing Pope Francis, she added, “True communication builds bridges from screen to heart, and from heart to Christ.”
The Jubilee celebration also marked the conclusion of a ten-day media education programme organized at Caranzalem and Dramapur parishes under the guidance of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media. Fr. Barry Cardozo, Director of the Centre, honoured Bishop Simião Fernandes alongside parish clergy and members of the diocesan communication team.
The celebration served as a profound reminder that communication, when rooted in faith and inspired by Mary, is not only a means of sharing information but a mission of connection, compassion, and hope. In an era dominated by digital media, the Church highlighted that messages of faith and love can reach hearts worldwide when guided by the Holy Spirit.
