Nagpur: The Archdiocesan Commission for Media and Communication, in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Nagpur, marked a landmark celebration with the Jubilee of Media and Communication on 12 October. The day-long event brought together nearly 60 delegates from parishes and institutions, alongside 800 film viewers, under the banner of promoting faith, creativity, and responsible media use within the Church and society.
The celebrations were presided over by Archbishop Elias Gonsalves of Nagpur, who highlighted the critical role of media in evangelization and the Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel. The Archbishop stressed that media, when used responsibly, can serve as a powerful tool for education, spiritual formation, and social transformation, encouraging the faithful to engage with modern platforms in meaningful ways.
The Jubilee commenced with an interactive workshop led by Dr. Shaison P. Ouseph, the director of the award-winning film The Face of the Faceless. The session provided delegates with practical insights into film-making, content creation, and ethical storytelling. Participants explored how media can be harnessed to convey faith-based messages, promote social justice, and inspire positive change in communities.
As part of the celebration, winners of a Short Film-Making Competition, launched earlier to commemorate the Jubilee, were felicitated. The competition encouraged participants to create Gospel-inspired films, and the winners were recognized for their innovative and spiritually enriching entries, reinforcing the theme of faith through creative expression.
A special screening of Dr. Ouseph’s film The Face of the Faceless was held, attracting 800 viewers per session. The film, celebrated for its poignant storytelling, explores themes of faith, dignity, and human compassion. Audience members were deeply moved by its narrative, which underscores the transformative potential of media to touch hearts and inspire action.
Archbishop Gonsalves concluded the event by encouraging delegates and viewers alike to use media conscientiously, promoting truth, harmony, and peace through their work. He emphasized that media, when aligned with the Gospel, can bridge divides, strengthen communities, and deepen the Church’s engagement with the modern world.
The Archdiocesan Jubilee of Media and Communication successfully combined education, inspiration, and recognition, leaving participants empowered to carry forward the Church’s mission through innovative and responsible media practices.
