Gurue: Bishop Inácio Lucas Mwita of the Gurué Diocese has called upon the youth and graduates to embrace the spirit of the Jubilee Year by actively addressing social injustices and inequalities in Mozambican society. The Bishop made this appeal during a thanksgiving Graduation Mass for 121 students of the Catholic University of Mozambique, held in Gurué district, in the presence of local civic officials and dignitaries.
In his homily, Bishop Mwita reflected on the Jubilee Year proclaimed by the late Pope Francis, celebrated under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” He emphasized that the Holy Year is more than a ceremonial observance; it is a call to undertake concrete actions to promote justice, peace, and equality, both globally and within Mozambique. “The Jubilee Year invites us to confront the inequalities and injustices that persist in our communities and to become agents of transformative change,” he said.
Addressing the graduates, the Bishop urged them to “seek true peace from God through a disarmed heart,” encouraging them to approach life and their careers with empathy, integrity, and a commitment to service. He prayed that the new graduates would become instruments of justice, peace, and societal development, contributing meaningfully to the betterment of their communities.
This graduation marked the seventh ceremony of the Catholic University of Mozambique in Gurué and coincides with preparations for the university’s Seventh International Congress, themed “Catholic Universities: Building Bridges for a Sustainable Future.” The congress aims to explore the role of Catholic higher education institutions in fostering sustainable development, ethical leadership, and social responsibility.
Through the Graduation Mass and the Jubilee Year reflection, Bishop Mwita highlighted the integral link between faith, education, and social action, inspiring students to carry forward the values of hope, justice, and compassion into their professional and personal lives.
