New Delhi: Delhi Police have stopped a major terror plan and arrested two young men who were allegedly preparing to carry out suicide attacks in the city during the festival season.
The police said the two men were inspired by the terrorist group ISIS. They were identified as 19-year-old Mohammed Adnan from Uttar Pradesh, now living in Delhi, and 20 year old Adnan Khan from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Both were arrested in joint operations with the Madhya Pradesh Anti Terror Squad.
Investigators said the suspects were in contact with a handler from Syria, known as Abu Ibrahim al Qureshi. They were planning to attack crowded places in Delhi to cause large scale damage.
During the raids, police found mobile phones, pen drives, hard drives, and ISIS propaganda videos. They also discovered written guides on how to make bombs, remote-controlled detonators, and a timer clock that could be used for explosions.
Mohammed Adnan had reportedly recorded a video pledging loyalty to the ISIS leader while wearing ISIS style clothes. He learned bomb-making methods through online videos. Adnan Khan had been arrested earlier in 2024 by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad for threatening a judge but was released on bail. After that, he again became active in extremist circles, police said.
According to officers, both had been radicalized through social media and were working alone, without any formal training or large group support. The police are now checking if anyone else was helping them or supplying money and materials.
Officials said the arrests prevented a possible terror attack and saved many lives. Security has been tightened across Delhi during the festival season to ensure public safety.
