Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that he is not currently considering sending Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, adding that his decision could change in the future. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump stated that the United States will not provide the long-range missiles “for now,” as he does not want to take steps that might further escalate the war with Russia.
Trump also said he is cautious about allowing NATO countries to buy Tomahawks from the United States and then transfer them to Ukraine. He mentioned that while Ukraine continues to seek advanced weapons to strengthen its defense, he prefers to focus on finding a peaceful solution to end the war.
The comments come as Ukraine continues to appeal for long-range strike weapons from Western allies to counter Russian attacks. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has repeatedly urged the United States and European nations to supply stronger military support.
In recent weeks, Russia has warned that providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would be seen as a major escalation. Moscow has claimed such a move would push the conflict into a more dangerous stage.
Earlier in October, Trump had hinted that he might consider supplying Tomahawks if Russia refused to stop its aggression. However, defense officials have said that transferring these weapons would be complicated due to stockpile limits and strategic risks.
The United States continues to evaluate its military aid to Ukraine, balancing support for Kyiv with the risk of increasing tensions with Moscow. For now, Trump’s stance reflects a cautious approach, keeping the possibility open for future changes depending on the progress of the war and peace efforts.
