Kanyakumari: The Conference of Religious India (CRI) and the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) have launched a 780 kilometre green journey across Tamil Nadu to raise awareness about environmental protection and responsible living. The initiative brings together religious communities, students and youth leaders with a shared goal of encouraging people to care for nature.
The journey aims to inspire individuals and institutions to adopt eco friendly habits such as tree planting, waste reduction and sustainable use of natural resources. Organisers said the campaign also seeks to connect faith with ecological responsibility, reminding people that protecting the environment is part of their spiritual duty.
Although full details about the route and schedule have not yet been released, the campaign is expected to travel through several major districts of Tamil Nadu, with public meetings, awareness programmes and interfaith discussions along the way. Participants plan to engage schools, parishes and local communities to build a collective commitment to preserving nature.
This initiative reflects a growing trend within the Catholic Church to promote ecological action in line with Pope Francis’ encyclical *Laudato Si*, which calls for greater care for the planet. The CRI and AICUF leaders have said that this journey is not only about covering distance but also about spreading hope and responsibility for the future of the Earth.
The campaign comes at a time when Tamil Nadu is strengthening its own environmental efforts through state led tree planting drives and green mission projects. The partnership between faith based groups and civic initiatives could help create deeper community participation and long term awareness on climate and conservation issues.
