Bengaluru: Panic spread through a private school in the Anekal area of Bengaluru on Tuesday morning after a loud explosion was heard from the boys’ toilet. However, police later confirmed that the incident was not a bomb blast but a prank involving firecrackers set off by students.
According to officials, the sound of the explosion caused alarm among students and teachers, especially as it came just days after a minor blast was reported near the Red Fort in New Delhi. Teachers immediately evacuated the area, and police teams rushed to the school to investigate.
Initial fears of a serious explosion were quickly ruled out after bomb detection and disposal squads examined the site. The investigation revealed that a few students had ignited firecrackers inside the toilet as a prank, leading to the loud noise and panic.
No one was injured in the incident, but school authorities and police have taken the matter seriously. Officers have warned students about the risks and legal consequences of such behavior.
Police officials said the case would be treated as a case of mischief rather than a security threat. They have advised schools to strengthen awareness among students about safety and responsible conduct, especially in light of recent nationwide security concerns.
The Anekal school has assured parents that all safety measures are being reviewed and that strict action will be taken against those involved in the prank.
Authorities added that such incidents, though not dangerous, create unnecessary fear and waste emergency resources, especially when public alert levels are high following other explosions in the country.
