New Delhi: External affairs minister S Jaishankar took part in the G7 foreign ministers meeting outreach session in Canada, where he presented India’s perspective on the growing challenges in global energy security and critical minerals.
During the session, held in the Niagara region, Jaishankar stressed that the world must work together to reduce dependence on limited supply sources and build stronger and more reliable supply chains. He said that while discussions and consultations are important, the real challenge is to ensure that these ideas turn into action on the ground.
The minister highlighted that global markets for energy and essential minerals remain unpredictable and vulnerable to disruptions. He noted that resilience, diversification and long term planning are key to handling future shocks. India, he added, is ready to partner with countries to strengthen cooperation in these areas.
Jaishankar also joined a special meeting on maritime security and prosperity. There, he underlined India’s commitment to safe seas, respect for international laws such as the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the need to protect maritime routes that are vital for global trade.
On the sidelines of the G7 event, the minister held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, the European Union, Brazil, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. The discussions covered trade, technology, regional issues, energy cooperation and global supply chain partnerships.
Jaishankar said India aims to build strong and dependable partnerships as the world faces rapid geopolitical and economic changes. He added that India’s growing engagement with major nations reflects its commitment to contribute to global stability and development.
