Chapaguri: The Bongaigaon Diocese marked a remarkable milestone, celebrating its Silver Jubilee (2000–2025) alongside the 25th anniversary of the episcopal ordination of its founding Bishop, Thomas Pulloppillil. The two-day event at the Cathedral Church in Chapaguri witnessed the gathering of over 30,000 faithfuls, including bishops, clergy, religious, lay leaders, and political dignitaries from across the region, collectively expressing gratitude for a quarter-century of pastoral care, faith formation, and missionary outreach.
The celebrations were graced by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, who attended as the Chief Guest. The Nuncio participated in the thanksgiving, extending the prayers and blessings of the Holy See to the diocese and its faithful. The program featured a Solemn Eucharist, a formal reception for the Apostolic Nuncio, felicitation of dignitaries, and vibrant cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage and unity of the local communities.
A key highlight on 22 November was the release of the Bodo Lectionary, marking a significant step towards making liturgical texts more accessible to the faithful in the region. On 23 November, the Silver Jubilee Souvenir and the commemorative book Contours of Belonging A Historical and Anthropological Exploration of the Diocese of Bongaigaon were unveiled, celebrating the diocese’s unique history, identity, and contributions to the local Church.
The festivities concluded with a Pontifical Mass followed by a communal feast for thousands of attendees, symbolizing unity, fellowship, and shared joy. As the diocese reflects on 25 years of growth and service, Bishop Thomas Pulloppillil and the faithful look forward with renewed zeal for evangelization, community building, and continued mission, embracing the future with faith, gratitude, and purpose.
