Indian Youth Voice Their Hope-Filled Vision at FABC Congress in Malaysia

Penang: Young Catholics from across India delivered powerful testimonies at the ongoing FABC Congress in Penang, Malaysia, offering a vivid portrait of how the Great Pilgrimage of Hope is shaping the spiritual imagination of a new generation. The delegates, representing the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), spoke with clarity and passion about faith, unity, and mission during the gathering being held from November 27 to 30.

Their reflections highlighted not only personal transformation but also a renewed desire to contribute to a Synodal and mission-driven Church across Asia. The CCBI, the largest bishops’ conference in Asia, encompasses 132 dioceses, 217 bishops, and 18 million Latin Catholic faithful. Sixteen youth represented India at this significant continental assembly.

Vaibhav Parkhe of the Diocese of Aurangabad said the sessions helped him rediscover the essence of mission by emphasizing meaningful encounters, deep listening, and shared journeying. Representing India, he noted, strengthened his sense of responsibility to lead with sincerity and a servant’s heart.

Raju Challagali from the Archdiocese of Hyderabad described the Pilgrimage of Hope as an extraordinary blend of faith, culture, and unity. Interacting with bishops and Church leaders left a lasting impact, reinforcing his commitment to the wider Asian Church.

For Anson Clement Nazareth of the Diocese of Udupi, the Congress highlighted the living strength of a Synodal Church. He stressed that young people are not merely the future but an essential and active part of the Church today. The experience rekindled his desire to work collaboratively and serve with love.

Anuj Ninama of the Diocese of Jhabua said attending the event felt like a dream for someone from a small diocese. He realised that mission begins with personal transformation only by living the Gospel authentically can he share Christ with others.

Adv. Antony Judy from the Archdiocese of Verapoly called the gathering a life-changing moment. Being in the company of Church leaders and youth awakened in him a strong sense of collective mission leading up to 2033. He said the message that “hope is a journey walked together” strengthened his resolve to serve boldly.

Apurva Xess of the Diocese of Raigarh returned uplifted by the power of witness and storytelling. Listening to the diverse experiences of young Catholics across Asia renewed her determination to serve creatively and compassionately.

Jimmy Pdang of the Diocese of Jowai said the pilgrimage deepened his call to journey closely with Christ. He spoke about embracing the “shoes of humility,” immersing himself in Scripture, and rebuilding his community through simple acts of hope.

Amisha Cutinha from the Diocese of Meerut expressed that the Congress was a joyful experience of unity. She said walking together in faith reminded her that hope thrives when communities journey hand-in-hand.

Sagar Gabbeta of the Diocese of Warangal viewed the event as a powerful sign of unity among Asian Catholics. The theme inspired him to embrace a deeper spirit of communion, participation, and mission.

Supriya Varghese of the Diocese of Shimoga said meeting youth from diverse cultures across Asia was profoundly moving. Witnessing their faith strengthened her commitment as a youth leader representing India.

The reflections of these young delegates show a generation deeply inspired by the Pilgrimage of Hope and eager to contribute to a Church rooted in faith, dialogue, and shared mission. Their participation underscored India’s vibrant presence at the FABC Congress and highlighted the significant role of youth in shaping the future of the Church in Asia.
