New Delhi: Investigators looking into the recent blast near the Red Fort in Delhi carried out more searches across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday as part of a growing national investigation. The National Investigation Agency conducted raids at eight locations, including a major search at the home of suspect Jasir Bilal Wani.
Wani, who is now in custody, is believed to be a key link in the case. Investigators say he was involved in technical support for the group suspected of planning the attack. According to officials, evidence points to his role in working with equipment such as drones and other materials that may have been used for terror activities.
The explosion, which took place on November 10, is now officially being treated as a terror attack involving a vehicle loaded with explosives. The person believed to have carried out the blast was earlier identified as Umar Un Nabi, a faculty member from Al Falah University in Faridabad. His suspected involvement has pushed authorities to widen the scope of the investigation.
In recent days, agencies have also carried out searches at multiple locations in Delhi, including university offices and homes linked to individuals under scrutiny. Officials say the investigation is revealing a structured network involving several people, including some professionals and students. At least four additional suspects have already been arrested and brought into custody for questioning.
Security agencies believe the case goes beyond the single incident at Red Fort and may be connected to a larger plan. The discovery of drones and other devices during the inquiry has increased concern that the group may have been exploring advanced methods for future attacks.
Authorities say the investigation is still active and more suspects may be identified. The focus now is on uncovering communication links, funding sources and any possible involvement of groups outside the country.
Officials have assured that additional security measures are already in place in key cities. However, they also warn that the investigation is complex and may take more time to complete.
Meanwhile, the searches and arrests have led to tension in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, though officials say the operations are targeted and based on evidence, not community profiles.
More details are expected as questioning continues and forensic reports are examined.
