Four Killed, Dozens Injured in Russian Strike on Dnipro as Civilian Areas Hit Again

Dnipro: A Russian missile strike on the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro left four people dead and at least 40 injured on Monday, marking one of the most serious attacks on the region in recent months. Local authorities confirmed that 11 of the wounded are in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise.

The attack tore through a cluster of civilian facilities, including car-service centers, an office building, and residential areas. According to acting regional governor Vladyslav Haivanenko, nearly 50 vehicles were damaged, and several buildings sustained heavy structural losses.

First responders described scenes of devastation as fires broke out and debris littered the streets. Residents reported hearing a powerful explosion before windows shattered and smoke engulfed the area.

One of the survivors, a worker at a car repair shop, said the blast hit without warning. People threw themselves to the ground as fragments of metal and glass flew across the workshop. “It was chaos everyone was screaming, trying to find cover,” he recounted, as rescuers continued to pull victims from the rubble.

Emergency teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while authorities declared a day of mourning in the Dnipropetrovsk region. By afternoon, search-and-rescue operations were completed, though clearance of debris is expected to continue for days.

Dnipro, a major industrial and logistical hub far from the frontlines, has been repeatedly targeted since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Monday’s attack once again exposed the vulnerability of Ukraine’s urban centers, where civilians remain on the frontline despite diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the war.

The strike came as Ukraine’s leadership was engaged in high-level international talks in Paris, underscoring the stark contrast between diplomatic negotiations abroad and the continuing violence at home.

Local officials warned that beyond the immediate deaths and injuries, the destruction of workplaces and homes further strains an already battered region. For many residents, such attacks intensify the trauma of living under unpredictable bombardment and amplify anxieties over personal safety, livelihood, and the future.

The latest strike reinforces the grim reality that civilians continue to pay the highest price in a conflict now stretching into its fourth year. As Ukraine continues to seek global support and press for peace, the people of Dnipro face the somber task of mourning, rebuilding, and enduring yet another blow to their already fragile sense of normalcy.
