Kalogi: A drone strike on a kindergarten in the town of Kalogi in South Kordofan has killed at least 50 people including 33 young children. The attack happened on December 4 and is one of the deadliest incidents involving civilians since the fighting in Sudan began. Local medical groups and humanitarian workers say the number of victims could increase because many injured children and adults are still in critical condition.
Witnesses and officials accused the Rapid Support Forces of carrying out the strike. The kindergarten was hit in the morning when young children were gathered in the playground and classroom areas. According to rescue workers a second drone strike hit people who arrived to help the wounded and a third strike targeted another civilian area nearby. Doctors say several victims could not receive treatment in time because medical services in the region are already overwhelmed.
International aid organizations and human rights groups strongly condemned the attack. They said schools hospitals and emergency personnel are protected under international law and should never be targeted. UNICEF and other agencies expressed deep sadness over the deaths and warned that Sudan is becoming one of the most dangerous places in the world for children.
The attack happened as conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces continues across the country. Fighting first began in April 2023 and has forced millions of people from their homes. Communication in the affected region remains limited making it difficult to confirm the full number of casualties and to reach survivors who need help.
Governments and humanitarian groups are calling for an independent investigation and for safe access for medical teams and relief supplies. Many families in Kalogi are now grieving and community leaders say the tragedy has left the town in shock.
More updates are expected as authorities and aid workers continue to assess the situation.
