Kochi: For the first time in the history of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, artworks created by a Keralite nun will be showcased at Asia’s largest contemporary art exhibition. Sister Rosewin, a member of the CMC Angamaly Mary Matha Province, will be a distinctive presence at this globally acclaimed event.
Her paintings and sculptures, known for their artistic finesse and emotional depth, will be part of the sixth edition of the Biennale. This marks a historic moment as a nun’s artworks are being presented at the Biennale for the first time.
Sister Rosewin completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from RLV Government College of Fine Arts, Tripunithura. Since 2022, she has participated in exhibitions hosted by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, RLV College, and Durbar Hall Art Gallery, Ernakulam, gaining notable attention for her work.
Her creations depict various dimensions of the human experience, portrayed through vibrant colours and sculptural forms. For Sister Rosewin, art is not just an aesthetic process but a medium to communicate compassion, humanity, and values.
Expressing her happiness, she said being part of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an honour and a meaningful milestone in her artistic journey.
Currently serving at Chowwara Carmel Novitiate, she also holds advanced qualifications in psycho-spiritual counselling and sociology, alongside her background in fine arts.
